ITSC Concludes with Record Numbers
With more than 1,100 participants, the ITSC – International Thermal Spray Conference and Exposition has set new records. DVS – German Welding Society has invited participants and exhibitors from around the world to the leading event for thermal spraying and laser cladding from April 29 through May 1, 2024, in Italy. The ITSC in Milan at the Allianz MiCo – Milano Convention Centre was characterized by a comprehensive program. "It was one of the top three ITSCs in terms of presentations and attendance numbers that we have ever held," emphasizes Jens Jerzembeck, Head of Research & Technology at DVS. For more than 20 years, the ITSC has successfully established itself with conferences and exhibitions.
"The demand for coating solutions is increasing as new applications result from requirements related to topics such as climate protection, energy transition and sustainability," emphasizes Jens Jerzembeck. The high number of participants demonstrates the increasing need of representatives from industry and science for new solutions within the transformation towards climate neutrality. The ITSC meets this demand through its high application orientation and the many high-tech topics from various industries.
The diversity of topics and participants was evident within the framework of the "Best Paper Awards." At the ITSC – International Thermal Spray Conference and Exposition, the best scientific presentations were honored. Five speakers were able to convince the jury with their innovative works:
- Mohamed Amer from Coventry University in the UK with the paper "Exploring the Crack Propagation Behaviour in Suspension Plasma Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings: An In-Situ Three-point Bending Study in Scanning Electron Microscope."
- Philipp Warneke, BIAS – Bremer Institut für angewandte Strahltechnik with the topic "High-speed laser melt injection for reinforcing skin-pass rolls."
- Laurène Youssef, IRCER CNRS, France: “Development of 'smart' antibacterial surfaces by dry processes using two approaches 'metal matrix' and 'metal dopant’.
- Ondrej Kovarik, Czech Technical University, Czech Republic: "The effect of powder particle size on mechanical and fracture properties of cold sprayed Al.”
- Xiao-Chen Bu, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China with the work: “Plasma-spray deposition of Na3Zr2Si2PO12 electrolyte for high performance all solid-state sodium-ion battery.”
The ITSC Young Professionals Award 2024 – which honors academic young professionals – was awarded to Roberta Falco from Politecnico di Milano, Department of Mechanical Engineering. In her presentation "A deep learning approach to 3D shape simulation and toolpath planning optimization in cold spray," Roberta Falco introduced the possibilities of 3D shape simulation and toolpath planning optimization.
DVS e.V. congratulates all the winners of the two competitions and thanks everyone for their submitted proposals. The presentations significantly contribute to the quality of the event and serve as the substantive basis for the exchange between science and industry.
