thyssenkrupp Aerospace and Magellan Renew Partnership

thyssenkrupp Aerospace, part of thyssenkrupp Materials Services, a mill-independent materials distribution and service provider, has agreed to a 10-year contract extension to manage the material demand for Magellan Aerospace (UK), a global aerospace company that develops, designs and manufactures aircraft components worldwide. The agreement is a continuation of the successful, long-standing relationship between the two companies dating back more than 20 years.

Under the agreement, which also covers Magellan’s subcontractors, thyssenkrupp Aerospace will handle the entire supply chain management of raw materials, warehousing and other processing services for Magellan’s facilities in Europe and India. The main product group is aluminium plates, which will be serviced from the thyssenkrupp Materials Services sites in the UK, India and Poland, with tube and extrusion products supplied from the thyssenkrupp Materials UK site in Milton Keynes. These materials will be delivered just-in-time to Magellan’s facilities.

To strengthen its local alignment with Magellan, thyssenkrupp Aerospace is in the process of expanding its current site in India with an additional processing warehouse. This $4 million investment in a cutting-edge facility will not only facilitate the growth of the company but also lead to the creation of new employment opportunities in the region. Additionally, the business has also invested in a brand new 5-axis waterjet machine, equipped with high-precision 3D cutting technology, which is now operational at the Darton site in South Yorkshire, UK.

An important aspect of the partnership is the commitment of both parties to collaborate on digitalizing significant parts of the supply chain to increase visibility and resilience. This includes bundling all material demand to reduce waste and unnecessary stockpiling. Billy Kingsbury, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials UK and responsible for the aerospace business in the UK, said: “We are delighted to continue our collaborative and successful long-term relationship with Magellan. Because we’ve worked with Magellan for so long, we have a deep understanding of their materials supply chain. Together with our global footprint and our bespoke material management solution, this puts us in an ideal position to support Magellan’s strategic growth in emerging markets such as India.” Philip Underwood, CEO of Magellan, added: “At Magellan, we value strong partnerships that drive innovation and efficiency. Our continued collaboration with thyssenkrupp Aerospace over the past two decades underscores our confidence in their ability to deliver supply chain management and material services.“
